Band Cookie Cards
November 11, 2011 · No Comments · 5th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade, Band, Fundraisers
As a music fundraiser ZMS Bands have been selling Otis Spunkmeyer cookies once a month on Fridays during lunch. The cookies are chocolate chip only and sell for 2 for $1. Many students and staff purchase these cookies but many times children forget their dollar. To help solve this problem and to make it easier we will begin using “Cookie Cards”.
Cards may be purchased for $10 each. Parents must print, fill out and sign the form found here and return it along with $10 payment to school. Checks should be made out to ZMS Band. Students may also bring the completed form with cash or check payment to the next cookie sale on Nov. 18th during lunch. Cards may be purchased at any time throughout the year. Once a cookie card form is turned in it will be kept so we will have it at each cookie sale. No child will have to worry about losing it! No refunds will be given at the end of the school year. Any unused “dollars” will be donated to the Band.
Thank you for supporting the ZMS Bands!

Students achieving Honor Roll status have to be full-time students with all As and Bs for the nine-weeks. High Honor Roll students are full-time students with all As for the grading period. Students whose parents chose not to have their names released to the media on the parent release form will not have their names published but will still be recognized on Honors Day if they achieve honor roll or high honor roll for all 4 grading periods this year.

ZEF Grants Awarded to ZMS Teachers
October 18, 2011 · No Comments · 6th Grade, Academics
The Zionsville Education Foundation has funded a grant request by the ZMS sixth grade staff. “Full Speed Ahead with an Eye on the Past” was awarded $7812 to purchase materials for the language arts/social studies block. This generous grant will allow us to begin building the library of resources we need for integration of student study in these humanities areas.
ZEF also funded a grant to provide books for the Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Monaghan’s Humanities classes. The grant titled “You Wouldn’t Want To…Miss Out on The High-Interest Notification Texts!” provides 12 books from the You Wouldn’t Want To Be…series of illustrated non-fiction books that directly correlate to the 5th grade social studies state standards. They will be used in small groups and shared between the two classes. This project promotes academic excellence by providing high-interest non-fiction texts which will help develop students’ interestes in reading and history. The total amount awarded was $764.16.
The third ZMS grant funded by ZEF was titled Promoting Literacy in 8th Grade. The $1450.68 awarded will be used to purchase biographies of famous scientists for 8th grade students to read to help them make the connections between how scientists have worked in the past, present and how they will work in the future. The books will be read and discussed in class to help promote literacy at ZMS. This project is intended to humanize science and help students learn how to better communicate inthe 21st century.
Thank you, ZEF!
