Did you know that ZMS has an online art gallery? It has been running since the 2004-2005 school year. Students in art class have the choice of having their art uploaded to artsonia. Friends and family can see their art online and leave comments, join fan clubs, and purchase cool items with art images printed on them. We have such great participation that we have earned a first place honor for the state of Indiana for the past two years. We are currently #2 in the nation for the middle level! WOW! This is a first! Please visit our gallery and find the art of a ZMS student you know. Leave them a comment to show you care! http://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=4352artsoniastats

Jazz Band and Swing Choir Concert

January 25, 2011 · No Comments · Band, Choir, Clubs, Events, Music

plaque
On Friday, January 14, the Jazz Bands and the Swing Choir performed in Eagle Hall. There was a full house and the choir and both bands performed outstandingly and all of the groups were a big hit! The Jazz Bands played three songs and had wonderful and entertaining solos. The Swing Choir played 3 great songs that were really challenging. In “Johnny One Note” there was a syncopation. “Can’t Take that Away from Me” and “You’re the Top” are both love songs from the Great American Songbook. At the concert Mrs. Palmer dedicated “Can’t Take that Away from Me” to her husband. The whole night was a great success. The Grand Traverse Pie Company sold pies and all of the slices were sold out. The concert raised over $1,500 dollars and will go towards the Cedar Point trip. Overall, the concert was a complete success and all of the performers certainly went home feeling great!

How Do Announcements Work?

November 15, 2010 · No Comments · Clubs

Computer

The announcements crew is organized into many different groups. We have many jobs to do such as making animations, doing the announcements, working on the posts for the ZMS blog, and even taking pictures and videos for the announcements. The announcements might look like simple easy stuff but it is actually very complex, organized, and thoroughly set up.

The students who work on the blog are mainly the kids who are part of organizations of the school. Many of the posts are about our sports or other activities that we do outside of school. We come up with blogs that could catch peoples attention on the subjects of our activities.

Also we have a group of kids working on taking photos a couple days a week. These kids work hard to find good pictures of kids working and studying. You might see your picture in the announcements this year!

Another group of the announcements are the kids working on animations. They work hard to create animations that are about things going on in the school that kids could maybe do a little bit better on. The next animation will be about recycling so stay in tune with the announcements!

We also have another kid working on adding the pictures and animations to the announcements. He only has a little time to put it all together.

Thank you announcements crew for all the hard work that you do!

Untitled

Attention ALL Students in Grades 5-8:

Do you love to write? Do you want the chance to see your name in print of the ZMS school yearbook? If so, there is an exciting opportunity for you! Please read on…….

YEARBOOK STORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stories must be written in journalistic style. (see below.
  • Stories should be written about a topic that is relevant to your current grade level or teachers.
  • Stories should be between 150 and 250 words.
  • Stories should include quotes from at least 3-4 students, both boys and girls.
  • Spelling and grammar should be checked before electronic submission.
  • All writing must be submitted by Monday, November 8.  Please e-mail your document as an attachment to Mrs. Valencourt (lvalencourt@zcs.k12.in.us).

JOURNALISTIC STYLE RULES:

  • Write in Third Person.

Journalists are reporters; correct pronouns are “he”, “she”, and “they”. One exception is when you are quoting someone. You may quote them as saying, “I….”

  • Be Objective.

This is not an opinion based story written by you. Show the opinions of those you are interviewing and include quotes by them.

  • Write in Past Tense.

The yearbook is a permanent record of the year. The book comes out on the last day of school and will forever be a memory of the past.

  • Keep it Simple.

Journalistic writing incorporates simple vocabulary, simple sentences structure and shorter paragraphs. Try to keep your paragraphs shorter than 30 words. It is okay to have one and two sentence paragraphs.

  • Be Concise.

Your goal should be to  record as much information as possible in as few words as possible. If you have more space, add another quote.

  • Tell Both Sides of the Story.

Balance is important in journalism. Do not show your opinion. Include quotes by a variety of people involved…students that are boys and girls, students from different classrooms or teams, and also…get quotes by teachers when applicable.
