Eagle Ball Dodge Ball Tournament

The annual Eagle Ball Dodge Ball Tournament will take place on Friday, March 9 at 3:00pm in the gyms!  This single elimination tournament will feature competition between grades 5 & 6 in one gym and 7 & 8th grade in the other.  Participants will follow the national dodge ball rules and play with soft-foame balls.  Each team will receive a list of rules prior to the tournament in their team packet.  Packets are available now in room 504.  The registration form can also be found by clicking here.  Put your team together and turn in your registration along with your player fee of $3 per person by March 2.  Late entries will be accepted at a rate of $5 per person from March 5-7.

7/8 Scholastic Art Awards

Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Goodman are very proud to announce that seveal outstanding 7th and 8th grade year-long art students have had work accepted to the very competitive  Scholastic Art Exhibit. Katie Brake, Seventh Grade, won the highest honor- a Gold Key Award for her Ceramic Piece (top center). Kaelyn Becker, Kyle Bigelow, and Bailee Dodson, Eighth Grade, each won Silver Key Awards. Congratulations also to Jeanie Stehr and Hannah Kummer, Eighth Grade, received Honorable Mention Awards. The Gold and Silver Key Winners works’ will be on display at Clowe’s Hall at Butler University through February. Seventh and Eighth Graders in Art will tour the exhibit along with the Indianapolis Musuem of Art on Thursday, February 16th.

Tri-M Recital

Battle for the Nest

The 7th & 8th grade boys basketball teams will take on Zionsville West Middle School on Wednesday, December 21st in the Battle for the Nest.  This big event will allow one school to hold the coveted Nest trophy while also helping support ZMS student, Logan McGovern, who is battling cancer.  The Student Athletic Leaders at both ZMS and ZWMS will be selling raffle tickets during lunch on December 19, 20 & 21 and throughout the A game that night for the Free Throw for Free Chicken Competiton. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the Kidz4Kidz fund benefitting Logan.  Tickets are 1 for $1 or 5 for $3.  Five tickets will be drawn after the 8th grade A game for a chance to shoot a free throw.  Individuals who make their free throw will win Chick-fil-A for a year!  Come out and support your team in the Battle for the Nest while supporting Logan!

PACK THE HOUSE-WHITE OUT NIGHT!

We are looking to pack the house and make it a White Out on Monday, December 5 at the 7/8 boys basketball games against Creekside!  ZMS students who come wearing white will only have to pay $1 to get into the games.  Our Student Athletic Leaders have planned promotions and prize giveaways throughout the game so you won’t want to miss it!  This is for all ZMS students in grades 5-8.  Come out and show your Eagle spirit!  Games start at 5:30pm.

ZCHS Babysitting Service

The ZCHS Student Council is sponsoring a Babysitting Night on Friday, December 2nd from 6-9pm at Zionsville Community High School.  Cost is $15 per child for ages 2 through 10.  It’s a perfect time to enjoy the Holiday Music Concert or attend the varsity basketball game at the high school, go out to eat or go holiday shopping while the kids have fun with snack, games and crafts.  Registration and drop-off/pick-up will be at Door 41 on the south side of the high school building.

ZBOP Gala Presents an Acoustical Evening with Pure Prairie League and Firefall

The American country rock bands, Pure Prairie League and Firefall, will headline the Zionsville Band and Orchestra Patrons’ Annual Gala and Silent Auction on Saturday evening, November 5, 2011, 7:00 pm at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center in Zionsville, Indiana.

Since the 1970’s the Pure Prairie League has recorded numerous country rock hits such as the familiar “Amie,” “Two Lane Highway,” and “Let Me Love You Tonight,” which was number 10 on the Billboard singles charts in 1980.  Pure Prairie League toured nationally with Little Feat and the JD Blackfoot bands.  Their first album featured the iconic image a Norman Rockwell drawing of an old cowboy named Luke who had originally appeared in the Saturday Evening Post magazine.

Country rock band, Firefall was formed in Boulder, Colorado in 1974 by Rick Roberts formerly of the Flying Burrito Brothers.  Their biggest hit single was “You Are the Woman” which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard charts in 1976.  Other hits include “Just Remember I Love You” and “Strange Way” and “Cinderella.”

Tickets may be purchased online at the http://zboponline.tix.com and or by phone at 317-873-3355 ext 12940 (September 1st through November 4th).  They may also be purchased in person at the ZPAC box office located at 1000 Mulberry Street in Zionsville.  Tickets prices are $50 (Patron), $35 (Select), $30 (General) and $20 (Senior and Student.)  All proceeds benefit the Zionsville Community High School Music Department.  Doors open and silent auction begins at 5:30 pm.

Explore the West – Summer 2012

Since 1997, ZMS teacher Vince Flecker, with school board approval, has been taking students on outdoor learning adventures.  Most of these trips have been to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. 

This year we wanted to let committed students choose between two western destinations.  The one most desired would be the one chosen for this year’s exploration.

Below are some outlines with approximate costs.  Please review, and if this is something you would wish to pursue, come to the informational meeting on November 16th at 7 PM in the LGI.

 Destination #1:  Rocky Mountain National Park

Travel by van to RMNP

7 night trip

Camping in Olive Ridge Campground

Explore the park by trails to mountain summits

View wildlife, such as elk, marmot and mule deer

Be challenged on a high ropes course or rock climbing

Approx. Cost:   $780  Includes most meals, fees and travel

Minimum number of students 8  Maximum 18

 

 Destination # 2:  Yosemite National Park

Air travel

5 night trip

Staying in Curry Village Tent Camp

Explore the park.  Hike to summits.

Observe wildlife and fauna

Activity to be determined

Approx Cost $650.  Fee does not include airfare and meals.

Minimum number of students 9 Maximum 15

 You are invited to attend a Town Hall Meeting designed to focus on teen decision making in our community.  The topic for this Town Hall Meeting will be the issue of Bullying

The administrative team from Zionsville Community High School will partner with attorney and Zionsville resident Andrew Manna to present on this very important topic. Mr. Manna will speak on the topic from a legal perspective while the school administrators will discuss steps they have taken to reduce the impact of bullying. Here is a bio for Mr. Andrew Manna who practices with Church, Church, Hittle, and Antrim.

 Andrew A. Manna joined the firm as an associate in August 2009 and became partner in January 2011. Andrew A. Manna represents clients in matters associated with labor and employment law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other matters. Mr. Manna also engages in defense of school

corporations against claims under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), First Amendment and other constitutional and civil rights law matters. Mr. Manna engages in representation of schools with respect to general school policy review.

 Mr. Manna graduated from Eastern Illinois University where he played football. Prior to becoming an attorney, he taught social studies in both rural and urban districts. While in law school, he participated in Moot Court and worked as intern in the Office of the Governor on education policy.

 Mr. Manna is a frequent speaker on both the state and national level. He is a member of the National School Board Association’s Council of School Attorneys. Outside of the practice of law, Mr. Manna enjoys spending time with his family, running and watching football.

Everyday, approximately 4700 American children under the age of 18 try marijuana for the first time.  54% of the students in the U.S. have tried an illegal drug before they graduate from high school.  Every family and every child today is vulnerable to the allure of drug use.  Good kids are not immune to the lure of drugs.  Today’s young people have far more to choose from than their parents did 20-30 years ago.  Today’s drugs like Ecstasy, Heroine and other substances are just as available as marijuana was only a few years ago.  Come learn more at this community event.
