Dear ZMS Parents, Students, and Staff,

If you’ve got great photos of school activities and/or athletic events, we’d like to see them. Afterall, our yearbook club photographers can’t be everywhere all the time! Help us get as many photos as possible to create a terrific book everyone will want to have. We don’t need ALL of your photos, just your best ones from that event!
Here is how you can submit photos online:
• Go to: http://www.replayit.com/r/
• Go to the top, right corner, and click “Find your school to register”
• Create a login and write down the email address and password and keep in a safe place. You may wish to use your student email adress (first-last@stumail.zcs.k12.in.us)
-NOTE: our school passcode is: zmsyearbook12
• After you have verified your email address, you may start uploading!
• I find it easier to upload one at a time. Please be sure to “tag” the photo with important information like student name, activity, etc.
It’s that easy! Submit your photos today! The last day to submit photos is 3/1/2012.
Thank you, and enjoy the rest of the school year!

Cedar Point Choir Trip
May 25th, 2011 · No Comments · Band, Choir, Music
The Swing Choir performed excellently during the Cedar Point Competition of “Music in the Parks.” The songs that they sang were “The Fool on the Hill, and “Over the Rainbow.” “Over the Rainbow” featured an outstanding soloist: Caitlin P. As she sang, her voice was beautiful enough to make some members of the audience begin to cry. In “The Fool on the Hill” the choir performed nearly perfectly except for a short part where the parts gravitated towards each other. The choir received a superior rating overall, and won in their category of the Jazz Swing Choir.

January 28th, 2011 · No Comments · Choir, Music
Swing Choir performed in Fort Wayne last Saturday. In order to make the concert longer the swing choir needed to choose some songs from the school fall concert. They practiced on the bus ride up and by the time they had gotten to Fort Wayne the songs were concert worthy. One of the songs that they chose at the last minute was, “Rhapsody in Rhythm.” They performed well with the conducting of the new president of IMEA. Indiana Music Education Association has now chosen Mrs. Palmer has their new President. She is now president elect of the organization.
Jazz Band and Swing Choir Concert

On Friday, January 14, the Jazz Bands and the Swing Choir performed in Eagle Hall. There was a full house and the choir and both bands performed outstandingly and all of the groups were a big hit! The Jazz Bands played three songs and had wonderful and entertaining solos. The Swing Choir played 3 great songs that were really challenging. In “Johnny One Note” there was a syncopation. “Can’t Take that Away from Me” and “You’re the Top” are both love songs from the Great American Songbook. At the concert Mrs. Palmer dedicated “Can’t Take that Away from Me” to her husband. The whole night was a great success. The Grand Traverse Pie Company sold pies and all of the slices were sold out. The concert raised over $1,500 dollars and will go towards the Cedar Point trip. Overall, the concert was a complete success and all of the performers certainly went home feeling great!

The Great American Song Book (Irving Berlin)
September 20th, 2010 · No Comments · Choir, Music
In the 7th and 8th grade choir, they have been learning about previous American song writers such as Irving Berlin. Irving Berlin actualy came from Russia but fled from his home. He hardly remembers anything about Russia however since he’s lived most of his life in America. Irving Berlin has written songs such as “Anything You Can Do,” and “God Bless America.” “God Bless America” was a great patriotic song, however because of discriminations against immigrants it never had a chance of becoming the National Anthem. The choir is practicing some of his songs such as “Alexander’s Ragtime Band.” His most famous achievement is “Annie Get Your Gun.” Soon the choir will be learning about new famous American song writers.
“Three Cups of Tea”
September 13th, 2010 · No Comments · Choir, Music
The 7th and 8th grade boy’s choir is learning “Three Cups of Tea.” The song “Three Cups of Tea” was based off the book which shares the same name. It was composed by Jake Fleming and recorded by Jeni Felming and Amira Mortenson. Amira is the daughter of Greg Mortenson the person who raises money to try to build schools in Pakistan. The song is used to raise money for more schools in Pakistan. The song is all about us becoming closer to other countries through education and girls having equal rights and learning in schools. People are saying that education can stop terrorism and it really can. The terriorists have the power they have because the kids and parents don’t want their kids to grow up poor and the terrorist groups would promise anything to get more soldiers. With education the kids will beable to get actual jobs and wont have to rely on the groups for jobs. The song really helps a person realize what it is like in Pakistan.
Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones
September 9th, 2010 · No Comments · Choir, Music
In 7th and 8th grade boy’s choir Mrs. Palmer has chosen the great song “Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones.” In “Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones” the song is about all those who have died in battle to protect us and allow us to be able to go home and watch whatever television show a person wants or eat whatever the person wants. The little things like searching the Internet freely are often not thought about. If you feel like you don’t understand the rights you have, then you could go one week without watching TV or searching the internet without your parents monitoring you and telling you what you can and can’t watch. For that week, you also can’t criticize any public official or anyone above you. After just one week, I think you’ll be able to see what is like for them their whole lives.
