Change For Children Volunteers

November 10th, 2011 · No Comments · Change for Children, PTO Activities

“Change for Children” is a holiday fundraiser for the ZMS PTO and FUN WEEK where the ZMS students bring in loose change and participate in a fun competition called “Penny Wars” (under the leadership of their PRT and SOAR teachers).  It is an event to support their own peers right here at ZMS.  Money will be collected the week of Monday, Nov. 14th – Friday, Nov. 18th. ***YES*** this is next week!  A class winner for each grade will be announced in the Daily Announcements.  At the end of the week, the class winner for each grade will then win a special treat (still to be determined).  100% of the money collected will be with shared with some of our own ZMS families by the ZMS Guidance Office to help brighten their Holidays.  It is amazing how quickly loose change adds up for this event.  Last year, we raised over $6000.

Here is how we need your help: we are looking for parents to volunteer during shifts from 11:00-12:15 for 5th/6th grade PRT classes and from 12:00-1:15 for the 7th/8th grade SOAR classes.  Our job will be to collect buckets of change from the teachers and assist in counting and tracking classroom totals.  We will be utilizing a coin collector at Bank Ameriana to convert the change into checks to be deposited into the PTO bank account.  Feel free to volunteer for multiple or consecutive time slots.

In order to sign up, please go to the following website:

On your scheduled day, please enter through the front/main office, sign in, and proceed to the table that will be set up directly behind the LGI room (next to the mural and near the stairs).   If possible, please sign up this week, so that we can assess our volunteer commitments.

Thanks for your help!

Change for Children

January 15th, 2011 · No Comments · Change for Children, PTO Activities

Change for Children took place in November, and ZMS students worked together to raise over $6000.  PRT/SOAR classes competed against each other within their grade level by participating in a “Penny Wars” competition.   The winning PRT/SOAR classrooms celebrated with pizza parties.  We are extremely grateful to our teachers for their support , leadership, and rallying the students. The money collected has been used in many ways to meet some of the needs of our own families by funding such things as gift cards, yearbooks, ice cream sundae cards, band cookies, totes for the Spring Food for Thought, and will continue to fund additional areas throughout the year.  Change for Children was a fun and huge success, but it would not have been possible without the enthusiastic participation by generous ZMS students/families, staff, and more than 30 terrific PTO volunteers.  Thank you to all!

Change for Children

NEXT WEEK!  ***Change for Children***
Monday, November 15th – Friday, November 19th

The ZMS PTO is sponsoring a community service project, called Change for Children, to help our own ZMS families who might need some extra assistance this holiday season.  Next week, your children will be able to help out during this event by participating in a “Penny Wars” competition between their PRT (5th/6th)  and SOAR (7th/8th) classes.  The PRT/SOAR classroom buckets of money will be collected and counted each day by PTO volunteers.   Pennies in a bucket will be deducted from the overall total of other money collected, and the classroom for each grade that has the largest total overall amount will be announced at the end of each day as the daily class winner.  The overall winner for each grade at the end of the week will receive a special treat.  The money collected through Change for Children will then be shared with our own ZMS families to help brighten their holidays.  All donations are confidential and handled by the Guidance Office to ensure privacy.   Paper money and checks are accepted as well (checks may be written to “Zionsville Middle School PTO”).  Gather your loose change and encourage your children to participate in this fun holiday project to help our own ZMS families.  If you have any questions, please contact  Pam Schacht at pam@schacht.com, or Kristin Marron at kristinmarron@gmail.com
