18th Annual Athletic Mulch Fundraiser

Zionsville Middle School and Zionsville West Middle School are sponsoring their 18th annual mulch fundraiser in partnership with The Turf Boss. Proceeds benefit the Athletic Departments at both middle schools. Orders are due March 29 for the first delivery week and April 20 for the second delivery week. Delivery is free in Zionsville. Art Students Honored in Scholastic Art Ceremony

Congratulations to outstanding seventh grade art student of Mrs. Goodman, Katie Brake! She won the highest honor at the Scholastic Art And Writing Awards Cermony- a Gold Key! Katie’s award winning ceramic piece will be judged at the national level next. We are so proud of your creative talent and hard work, Katie Brake!
Congratulations also to Mrs. Gibsons’ eighth grade students Kaelyn Becker, Bailee Dodson, and Kyle Bigelow for winning Silver Keys! Hannah Kummer and Jeanie Stehr won Honorable Mention awards!

7/8 Scholastic Art Awards

Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Goodman are very proud to announce that seveal outstanding 7th and 8th grade year-long art students have had work accepted to the very competitive Scholastic Art Exhibit. Katie Brake, Seventh Grade, won the highest honor- a Gold Key Award for her Ceramic Piece (top center). Kaelyn Becker, Kyle Bigelow, and Bailee Dodson, Eighth Grade, each won Silver Key Awards. Congratulations also to Jeanie Stehr and Hannah Kummer, Eighth Grade, received Honorable Mention Awards. The Gold and Silver Key Winners works’ will be on display at Clowe’s Hall at Butler University through February. Seventh and Eighth Graders in Art will tour the exhibit along with the Indianapolis Musuem of Art on Thursday, February 16th.

Explore the West – Summer 2012

Since 1997, ZMS teacher Vince Flecker, with school board approval, has been taking students on outdoor learning adventures. Most of these trips have been to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
This year we wanted to let committed students choose between two western destinations. The one most desired would be the one chosen for this year’s exploration.
Below are some outlines with approximate costs. Please review, and if this is something you would wish to pursue, come to the informational meeting on November 16th at 7 PM in the LGI.
Destination #1: Rocky Mountain National Park
Travel by van to RMNP
7 night trip
Camping in Olive Ridge Campground
Explore the park by trails to mountain summits
View wildlife, such as elk, marmot and mule deer
Be challenged on a high ropes course or rock climbing
Approx. Cost: $780 Includes most meals, fees and travel
Minimum number of students 8 Maximum 18
Destination # 2: Yosemite National Park
Air travel
5 night trip
Staying in Curry Village Tent Camp
Explore the park. Hike to summits.
Observe wildlife and fauna
Activity to be determined
Approx Cost $650. Fee does not include airfare and meals.
Minimum number of students 9 Maximum 15

If spending time exploring one of America’s best outdoor parks appeals to you, please check your number one trip choice and return this form with a $100 deposit. Make your check payable Vince Flecker. Should your desired trip not be selected and you do not want to go to the other destination, your deposit will be refunded.

Wrestling Team Info

The Wrestling Team callout meeting will be on November 1 from 2:45-3:30 in the LGI Room. Open Mats will begin on November 7th and continue every Monday-Thursday through December 1st. Ice Cream Sundae Sales 2011-12

Each year the 8th Grade Party Committee sells ice cream sundaes to the students to raise money for the end of the year party. The committee has chosen one Friday per month to sell the sundaes during lunch. The sundaes will be available for $1 each and the kids will get to pick their toppings. The first ice cream sale is Friday, October 14th.
A 10 sundae punch-card is available for purchase for $10 or your child can bring $1 on sale days. If you choose to buy a punch-card, simply print and fill out the form here and return it with your $10 to the office. Our committee will hold on to all punch-cards so no worries of your child losing it! Checks can be made out to ZMS-PTO. No refunds will be given at the end of the year….any unused punches will be donated to the PTO. Thank you for supporting PTO and the 8th Grade Party Committee!

Dates: Tuesday, October 18, and Wednesday, October 19
Time: 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm both days
7th & 8th grade core academic teachers will be in the North Gym and parents may attend either day.
5th & 6th grade core academic teachers will be in the South Gym. Parents should have received an email earlier this week indicating their designated day.
Special area teachers will be in North and South Gyms (art, music, foreign language, PE/Health)
